15 Jan Maria Horn: Why We Need Broadband
From CT District 64 State Representative, Maria Horn
I do not have broadband access at my home in Salisbury because Comcast, the sole provider, does not connect everyone here. But that is not the principal reason that I support the efforts of Northwest ConneCT to fashion a universal fiber optic network for our region. We need to attract young people to our region: if we have an advanced network here, among few in the nation, they will come. We must insure adequate resources for our children in school, which is becoming increasingly digital: our current divide can be closed with a universal network, one connecting everyone. Access to telemedicine is certain to become more critical in our region, and this will require bandwidth and reliable connections, in every house. Any of these reasons would be enough to drive towards the next generation network, for all, now. Our quality of life depends upon it today, as much as it depends upon roads, water, electricity, great schools, and beauty.
